Stitches from the Heart Quilt Guild

We are located in beautiful Sault Ste. Marie Ontartio Canada.

The first official Guild meeting was held October 26, 1992 with 14 people in attendance. The annual dues were set at $10.00 and anyone who joined after December 31st would only be charged $5.00.  At that time most of the members were new to quilting.  Show and tell would follow the business meeting and name tags were mandatory with a 25 cent fine for those who did not comply.  The guild was nameless and constitution-less at that point in time.  At the November meeting it was decided by the 13 members present that the group would join the Ontario Quilting Association and work began on the constitution.  "Stitches from the Heart" came to be January 25, 1993 by secret ballot.

In February the group attendance jumped to 32 persons.  It was decided that the group would start having workshops and a fee of $2.00 was charged for a workshop at that time.  The first was held Sunday March 7, 1993 where a quilt was tied for Women in Crisis.  The meetings moved from the Ministry of Agriculture on Trunk Road to Sault College where there would be more room.  This took place for the 1993/94 season.  That Spring saw the Newsletter, Library and Executive all take shape and by the end of that first season the guild had grown to 64 paid members.
It has been almost 20 years since that first meeting and we have grown to 162 paid members.  There have been many rewarding experiences with Show and Share, Quilt Shows, Workshops, trips and just plain fun quilting and sharing.  The most important element of the Guild, though, is the people...keep our Guild alive!
